ABOUT 


Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam was known as Missile Man of India. His full name was Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam. He was an Indian Scientist and a Politician who played a crucial role in the development of India's missile and nuclear weapon programs. He was very kind and a true gentleman who took India's space program to another level. 
Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam was the President of India from 2002 - 2007. Also, He was awarded by very prestigious awards including India's Highest civilian Award "Bharat Ratna" in 1997.

CHILDHOOD

Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam was born in Dhanushkodi, Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu on 15 October 1931. His Father's name was Jainulabdeen, who was a boat owner and imam of the local mosque. His Mother's name was Ashiamma, who was a housewife.

Abdul Kalam was the youngest among five siblings, the elder was a sister, namely Zohra and three elder brothers, namely Mohammad Muthu Meera Libbai Maraikayar, Kasim Mohammad and Mustafa Kalam.


EDUCATION-

In his early life, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam started to sell the newspaper to help his family who was suffering from money shortage and business loss. His grades were average in school days but were described as a bright student who has a strong desire to learn. Mathematics was his favorite subject.

Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam completed his matriculation Schwartz Higher Secondary School, Ramanathapuram and later he went to Saint Joseph's College for graduation where he became Physics Graduate. He went to Madras in 1955 to study aerospace engineering at Madras Institute Of Technology.

He wanted to become a fighter pilot but he got 9th position in the qualifiers and only 8 position was available in Indian Air Force (IAF).


CAREER-

After he completed his graduation in 1957 from Madras Institute of Technology, he joined the Aeronautical Development Establishment of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in 1958 as a Scientist. He had started his career by designing a small hovercraft at DRDO.

In the early 1960s, he worked with the Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR) under the renowned space scientist Vikram Sarabhai.

After he Visited Nasa's Research Centre in Hampton, Virginia in 1965-1964. He was so admired and inspired by their work so he had started working on an expandable rocket project independently in 1965 at DRDO but he was not satisfied with his work.

In early 1969, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam was transferred to ISRO as project director of the SLV-III which successfully deployed the Rohini satellite in near-earth orbit in July 1980. In between these days, he also got government approval in the 1970s where he included more engineers and worked on Polar Satellite launch vehicle(PSLV) who aimed to allow India to launch its Indian remote sensing (IRS) Satellite in Sun-Synchronous orbit. This project was successfully launched on 20 September 1993.

In 1970s, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam directed two projects namely Project Devil and Project Valient but later on, both were unsuccessful.

Under the leadership of Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam as chief executive in the 1980s, the project Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGDMP) proved to be successful by producing missiles like Prithvi Missile in 1988 and then the Agni Missile in 1989.
Due to his contribution, he was known as "Missile Man Of India".

In 1992, he was appointed as Scientist Adviser to the Defence Minister. Later on, with the rank in Cabinet minister, In 1999 he became Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India.

Also, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam contributed a major role in conducting the Pokhran-II, a series of five nuclear bomb test explosions in May 1988.

In 2002, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was in power and nominate Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam for the post of President of India. In which Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam won the presidential election easily.

Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam was the President of India from 2002-2007.

After leaving the office in 2007, Abdul Kalam chose the academic field and became visiting professor IIM Shillong, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Indore.

In 2011, he was criticized by civil groups over his stand on Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant as he had supported the establishment of the nuclear power plant and was accused of not speaking with the local people.

DR. A.P.J ABDUL KALAM - DEATH

On 27 July 2015, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam was delivering a lecture at IIM Shillong where he suffered a Heart attack and his condition became critical, so, he was shifted to Bethany Hospital where thereafter, he died due to cardiac arrest.
