Anmol Narang became the first Sikh observer to graduate from the US Military Academy at West Point.

Anmol Narang has made history by becoming the first Sikh observer to graduate from the prestigious United States Military Academy at West Point, and the second lieutenant hopes that her efforts to represent her religion and community will give more encouragement to them as Americans know about Sikhism.

US President Donald Trump addressed 1,107 graduates, including 23-year-old Narang, gathered for the academy's annual event.

Anmol Narang was born in 1997 (age 23 years; until 2020), in Roswell, Georgia. Her full name is Anmol Kaur Narang. Reportedly, her parents moved to the United States from Punjab permanently in the early 90s, therefore, she is a second-generation immigrant in the United States. After graduating one year at the Georgia Institute of Technology, she then moved on to West Point Military Academy, where she earned a degree in nuclear engineering and later earned the rank of second lieutenant in the US Army.



Before assuming his first posting in Okinawa, Japan in January 2021, she would undergo a Basic Officer Leadership course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. "

Narang was born into a Sikh family. She did not tell much about her family.


Facts / General Knowledge:-

In an interview with The New York Times, Narang reported, his grandfather served in the Indian Army. She further stated that military duty was in her blood, and she always aspired to become a military worker.

While she was in high school, she visited the Pearl Harbor National Memorial in Hawaii with her parents, where, she first learned about the tragic incident of the Pearl Harbor bombings. The trip boosted her motivation to serve in the United States Army, later, on the same day she mailed her application for admission to the United States Military Academy (also known as West Point).


Anmol Narang is trying to represent her faith and Sikh identity in the US military. It will also inspire Americans to learn more about Sikhism, the 5th widely practiced religion in the world. After joining the US Army she said

It is an incredible feeling. It is a humble experience, I have never worked hard for anything in my life. Being a Sikh woman is a very important part of my identity and if my experience can play a small role in becoming an inspiration to others regardless of career field, it would be wonderful. "

Although many other Sikhs have graduated from the American Military Academy at West Point, the 23-year-old Anmol is the first observer to achieve this feat. This means that she is the first Sikh to be allowed to follow the practices of Sikhism while serving in the army, including the practice of growing hair naturally without cutting. As news of Narang becoming the first Sikh observer came to light, several prominent individuals congratulated her, including Captain Amarinder Singh (Chief Minister of Punjab, India).
