About-

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was a leader of nationalism in British-ruled India. He is commonly called Mahatma Gandhi. He was first called to South Africa in 1914. He is also called Bapu in India. Full name is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

He was a martyr of the nation since 1948. Rabindranath Tagore conferred upon him the title of 'Mahatma'.

Gandhi was one of the most important people involved in the movement for India's independence. He was a non-violent activist who led the freedom movement through non-violent protest.

Early Life-

Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October, 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat, India.  Several members of his family worked for the state government. When Gandhi was 18, he went to study law in England.  After becoming a lawyer, he went to the British colony of South Africa, where he experienced laws that said people with darker skin had fewer rights than people with lighter skin. Gandhi was attacked in 1897 by a group of people in Durban Harbor, South Africa, while he was on his way to work. Because he could not find work in India, so he had to go to South Africa. While traveling from South Africa, Gandhi was forced out of a first class train due to his skin color. Then Gandhi started opposing secession. He then decided to become a political activist, so he could help change these unfair laws. He created a powerful, non-violent movement. During Gandhi's lifetime, India wanted independence as it was a slave of the United Kingdom. He was a huge leader during that era and his ideas helped catalyze the Indian independence movement.

Facts About Mahatma Gandhi As a Worker-

In 1914, when Gandhi returned to India, he again decided to lead a march against a law called the Rowlatt Act. But then the protest turned violent and people started killing the protesters.

In 1930, Gandhi led the Salt March.

When he returned to India, he helped lead to India's independence from British rule, helping other colonial peoples to work for their independence, breaking the British Empire and replacing it with the Commonwealth.

People from many different religions and ethnic groups lived in British India. Many thought that the country should be broken into different countries so that different groups could have their own countries. Many people thought that Hindus and Muslims should be separate countries. Gandhi was a Hindu, but he liked the idea of   many religions, including Islam, Judaism, and Christianity, and he thought that people of all religions should have equal rights, and live in peace in the same country.

In 1938, Gandhi resigned from the Congress. He said that he was not able to work through the Congress to unite the division in caste and religion. He also felt that he had little to offer the political process.

In 1947, the British Indian Empire became independent, breaking India into two, India and Pakistan. Gandhi wanted independence, but did not want to be divided into two separate countries. Instead of celebrating on Independence Day, he was weeping over the partition of India.

Gandhi's doctrine of satyagraha, often translated as "the path to truth" or "the pursuit of truth", has inspired other democratic and anti-racists such as Martin Luther King, Jr. and Nelson Mandela. Gandhi often said that his values   were simple, based on traditional Hindu beliefs: satya, and non-violence.

The death-

Gandhi died at the age of 78, on January 30, 1948. Mahatma Gandhi was shot and killed by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu activist, because Godse thought that Mahatma Gandhi was highly respectful of Muslims.
